New River Gorge Bridge

Our goal was to have eaten breakfast and be on the road by 8:00 am. We made it. Our first stop was at Yoder’s. I found a half of a pound cake for a special dessert and a zucchini bread for breakfast in WV. Also got the girls a useful item for their Christmas stockings. We left TN, drove through parts of VA and then into a new area of WV. We both love finding roads we’ve never traveled. I have wanted to visit this national park since I heard about the bridge. When hubby said we should explore something new today, I knew exactly what I wanted to do. You honestly did not realize you were on the bridge. Its top surface was a flat seamless road from end to end. We walked around the park to get different views of the bridge. Here are a few facts I found on the web. “The New River Gorge Bridge is the longest steel span in the western hemisphere. It is also the third highest bridge in the United States.” “They designed a single span arch bridge 3,030 feet long and 876 feet above the New River.” We found a Mexican restaurant not long before we got to the park. As usual, hubby and I were both pleased with our meal. We are heading to our last hotel on this leg of our trip. Hubby got very tired so we are sitting in the shade in a county park so he can rest a bit. We will be staying not far from the farm. We’ll get our last minute groceries in the morning and meet my sister, BIL and Sugar on the ridge mid day tomorrow. Wishing you the opportunity to check something off your bucket list soon. Stay safe. Thanks for visiting. The New River and National Park: “It’s a beautiful place. You can go down to the river, and watch your worries just wash away. Your thoughts get lost in that river and it calms your soul.” - grandmother of Jessica Riggins
