Very sad state of affairs

Having weeded through and digitising a similar bundle towards the end of last year, these are applications received this year so far.

The government estimates that 7.5% of the population has some form of disability, but the disability sector puts it closer to 15%. And of that, it is reported that there is an over 93% unemployment rate for the “youth”, those aged between 18 and 35. Many of the applicants are reaching the top end of the age bracket and have never worked.

Today 17 folk joined training programs, and three are being considered for permanent jobs. A drop in the ocean really but at least for them it’s a start.

It’s been a sobering kind of day but the optimism that folk still show makes it all worthwhile.
