Blair Castle...
Today's adventures were centred around a trip to Blair Atholl to visit Blair Castle and it's beautiful gardens.
More cloud cover today but still dry and bright and a pleasure to be outdoors. I can't remember when we had such a long spell of good weather. I hope the rain returning at the end of the week doesn't spell the end of our summer.
Arriving at the Castle we did the Castle tour first. Despite being restricted to the ground floor I really enjoyed seeing the rooms available there. There was an excellent film to watch to show what I was missing in person.
While P and I made our way through the downstairs rooms, D wandered up all three floors taking some photos for us. Meeting up again in the ballroom we headed to the cafe for lunch, which I have to say was a little disappointing. Cold food and P's vegetarian cheese and red onion chutney toastie containing cheese and ham instead. Could do better. That said, the staff throughout the Castle were lovely making sure we had easy access to the entrance and moving barriers to make our way around the place easier.
After lunch P picked up the mobility scooter she'd hired to explore the gardens. What an absolute hoot! Of course we had races :D
We spent most of our time in Hercules Garden making our way around it with much hilarity at times. We attempted to climb what was a steeper grassy hill than we first realised. My wheels were just about coping but P's scooter wasn't as lucky. Just when she'd decided to reverse back down the hill (she was only at the start of it) a German tourist Knight in Shining Armour appeared, told her to floor it and with him pushing from behind she made it to the top of the hill, to much cheering. Her face was a picture! Absolutely hilarious! :-))
Leaving the garden we headed back to the Castle and had planned to visit the Red Deer Park but P's scooter stopper dead on the way up the (tarmac) road. Switching it off and on again seemed to sort the problem but we decided to quit while we were ahead and end our trip there.
Scooter safely handed back to a staff member we headed back down the A9 and home. Pics of Castle interior and Hercules Garden in extras.
Off to have a quick read up on tomorrow's adventure :-)
