One of the stunning plants that I noticed was a large purple arum lily called a Dragon Arum The leaves were unlike those of our wild arum lilies and apparently resemble dragon feet. The flower spathe was about 18 inches long with several flies attracted to its sticky surface. The spikey spadix was almost the same length and consists of small flowers with male flowers on top and female flowers below. The foul smell of the flower attracts flies and beetles for pollination and once inside the spadix, it is difficult for the insects to fly off until pollination is complete in a day or so. It is very poisonous and smells awful so is ignored by animals as a result.
