Pedro & Crew are Salt of the Earth
They came this morning, swarming all over the hill, which is steep and unstable and from which John is banned because he keeps complaining about his balance. (I think his balance is better than mine). It is almost impossible to comprehend how much these guys got done in a day. They trimmed the agaves, and took off the bottom part of the overgrown palm trees. They cut back the overgrown lantana and carried all the clippings in huge bins around the house, down the rickety back steps and directly onto their big dump trunk. They practically danced down the hill with loads of heavy agave fronds? branches? Then they moved on to mow the lawn and rake it and fix the irrigation and the fallen fence post which probably caused the leak. They stopped for a half hour to eat their lunch under the arbor where they sounded like they were having a party.
I wish I had gotten a picture of them, but they were moving too fast!
Then Moises, the Squeegee King, arrived to wash the windows, inside and out. And spray the screens, and appreciate the 'angel wings' where a bird ran headlong into the window before expertly removing them. I said we'd had a lot of bird strikes lately and he said, 'it's springtime. They are really active.'
I don't know what we would do without them...
We are having splendid weather for at least a few more days. Old friends from our backpacking days are arriving tomorrow for a visit. And our dear Kathy, who I've been worried about since her blood counts went haywire and put her in the hospital for tests, called this morning to say she had met with a hematology oncologist who said that her high platelet count is 'a mystery' but he could find nothing indicating blood cancer. We're going to celebrate next week.
So all in all, a good day. I've accomplished practically nothing but I don't care. Everybody else accomplished superhuman amounts.
