I was ..............

 ............. today years old when I found out that squirrels can swim!!!

The main image shows Sydney Squirrel about a second before he jumped into the duckweed covered pond!
My first thought was "oh sh*t - he'll drown", I put the camera down and started out the back door, as I set off across the grass and looked up, there was Sydney doggy-paddling (or should that be squirry-paddling?) back to the edge.
He scrambled up the rocks - soaking wet, covered in duckweed - and ran, hell for leather, down the side of the house.   By the time I retrieved the camera and went to look for him he was gone.

In the inset photo, bottom left, you can see the Sydney shaped duckweed disturbance where he landed.   Better seen large ...
Bet he won't make that mistake again!!!  
Squirrels can swim!

In other news - for the third morning in a row I've heard a cuckoo - can't remember the last time, it's been years.

Such an exciting day.   :o))
