Yats!
“Yaffayat? Whityatyaffa?” A wee Glaswegian wumman (n. a lady of the parish) is putting the question to a gentleman wearing the dress of a ship’s captain. Here we have the translation.
“Are you, peradventure, the captain of one of the fine tall ships I see at anchor in the bay? If so, I ’d be delghted to know which one exactly you have the honour of captaining?” Note that the Glaswegian tongue is much more economical here than the Inglese.
On receiving the answer, she might have continued by saying: “Can yi giemi a hurl?” Here the lady would be indicating that she would be delighted to travel even the shortest of distances in such an impressive vessel.
