A Bridge Over One Part Soda, One Part Sundowner
Today started with another early run with legs out (shorts attired) as we thought it felt a bit milder than a couple of days ago, when we were still ensconced in running jackets and jogging bottoms, but not long after we'd stepped outside the door we soon discovered that was not the case so there were a few goosebumps involved but it still felt good to give ye old legs an airing!
The rest of the morning was spent doing some garden choppage and then dessert prep for tonight which mostly involved, on my part, hand whisking egg whites into stiff peaks for a topping to my brother's quite fancy homemade jazz apple and rhubarb crumble with a meringue topping.
After all that 'strenuous' activity we felt we deserved a reward so we headed down to our local, The Chequers, for a pint. My image was taken from the pub's terrace back towards our village's medieval bridge. I just liked it the juxtaposition of the bridge, with a pop of orange from a river traversing cyclist, in the background against the planter (a promotional item for a well know gin based fruit cup) in the foreground with its myriad foliage (sadly all of the plastic variety) and the little signs suggesting the apportioning of soda to sundowner.
Once we got back there was some more dinner prep for tonight (for a sausage casserole) and we then watched a fantastic documentary on Sky Arts called "Pauline Black: A 2-Tone story" about the singer's adopted background and the challenges with racism, sexism and hostility that she faced through British life and her 40 year music career, including as the lead singer The Selecter, but also the pure joy of the music itself.
