Mirror, Mirror in the Pond …
… who is that beautiful bird under the water?
I think this is a juvenile grey heron as it does not have any black feathers or ornamental feathers on its head. Maybe it was just fishing but it seemed to be fascinated by its reflection.
Earlier in the day we had a swim session in the Gouille and were watching a swan clearly chasing another smaller bird. At first I thought it was a goose then, as they came close to us, it looked like an Egyptian Goose, and it was! I put it in extra as I’m going back tomorrow hoping to see a pair of them. Apparently there are only 8 - 13 pairs that have been recorded in Switzerland. They mate for life and this one was calling quite loudly presumably to its mate. They are not native, originating in Africa, but have escaped from private collections in Europe apparently.
Also huge thanks for your feedback on yesterday’s Crested Tit which I hadn’t photographed before.
