Elected

On the way in to the Parish Hall to do my civic duty today. Should have been doing this a couple of weeks ago, along with the rest of the country, but one of the candidates sadly died a week before polling day, necessitating postponement of voting in our ward pending a replacement candidate being put forward and the consequent due process being followed.
I don’t normally bother voting in local elections but, having read all the blurb that was shoved through the letterbox, I came to the conclusion that only one candidate was actually serious about issues in our area.
His party was also the only one that bothered to take the time to knock on doors and ask our opinions. Finally, Mrs C had a doctor’s appointment just around the corner from the polling station this afternoon, so it would have been churlish not to pop in whilst we were in the area.
The officials were not exactly rushed off their feet when we went there, although they did turn one person away because they hadn’t brought ID with them. Amazes me how some people still don’t understand that you need ID to vote these days, despite all the adverts on tv and social media as well as dire warnings printed on all correspondence.
No doubt I will find out in course who has been elected to be my local councillor. Though I suspect that it will make very little actual difference to my day to day life. Unless he did listen to my plea to get the bloody potholes on Vicarage Drive filled in. But I’m not holding my breath…
