Our station
Last night the camera club AGM went well and that was the last meeting of this season. It's nice to have a break over the summer with no meetings until our next season resumes in September again. We do however have our annual exhibition which starts on the 3 June.
Today was a lovely summer's day, I could wear a summer dress without any jacket/cardi which is my test for good weather!
After a long walk with Xena, while Gavin was relaxing at home, we both got the train to Wimbledon to go meet his friend Mike. We met at Megan's for lunch and had such a laugh reminiscing about old times. Gavin eats so little that I made him order some ice cream afterwards. Mike leaves tomorrow so we won't see him again until his next visit from SA.
Gavin is doing well, he is tired though. We were expecting his 3 monthly scan to be in August but he got a call from the Royal Marsden today to say they want to scan him a month after his last scan, so that will be early next month.
I took this photo of our station as we got home from Wimbledon. This station opened in 1885, and it is situated right next to our local woods so it was popular for people to come down from London for a day out in the country and walking in the woods. The railway transformed Oxshott from "a hamlet of pig farmers" into a popular destination for London commuters, who occupied newly constructed mock Tudor mansions on land that had been released by the Crown Estate. At the far end of the railway track you will see the bridge that is used by vehicles to cross the railway line. In November 2010, there was an accident where a 26-tonne concrete mixer lorry crashed through the road bridge's parapet and fell about 30 feet (10 metres) onto the railway line, colliding with a train travelling from Guildford to London Waterloo. Of the 40 people on board the train, four were injured. The lorry driver of the lorry was badly injured, and also apparently had a heart attack and had to be carefully taken out of the cab by the medical services. I still remember the accident and how that road was closed for a few days.
