Newly Hatched and Hungry

The first Eurasian Coot chick I have seen this year, protected in the reeds which is why his/her parent looks rather green! I had popped down to the Gouille between rain showers to see if the Egyptian Goose was there but it wasn’t. Having read your comments yesterday, I don’t think we want too many of them as they are very aggressive apparently and can take over the nests of other birds. Coots are also aggressive and territorial during the breeding season, even towards their own youngsters if food is scarce apparently.
