Eat up boys
James still wasn’t asleep at 10.30 and said he didn’t want to go to school in the morning as he’d never be able to do his work. I said we’d not go to bed yet and he was asleep by 11. They were both quite tired this morning but got off to school fine.
The parents are having a brilliant time. The week before they left the small hotel said they were having renovations so they were sending them to their much bigger sister 5star place. They were not happy - they don’t like big swanky places so she wrote and said so. They were then told the renovations would be completed in time and they could go as planned. Last night they were told they could have a free meal at the posh hotel. They had fizz and wine and beautiful food at no cost to them (presumably because of the previous upset). Today she tells me they are relaxing at their hotel - they are the only people there! Which explains the “renovations” - now the hotel is having to pay staff just for them. She is so jammy.
I took a walk into the centre then down to the sea. I could have used gloves as the NE wind was biting. Just under 2 miles.
Thomas arrived home with a friend Tom. They ran about playing a very complicated army game. James had gone to Isaac’s and returned in time for Patrini’s fish and chips in the garden. (The sun had come out and it was warm).
We have offered them the opportunity to watch “Race Across the World” with us tonight. James is unsure - he might prefer to wait to watch with his mum. Thomas says he will watch it twice.
I’ve had quite an upsetting chat with an old uni friend, last seen a year ago when I was disturbed as she’d confused the time we were to meet and said she’d been to a cafe to book a table the hour before but they had no record of it and she didn’t recognise the place when we got there. We were discussing meeting next month in Edinburgh and she insists we didn’t meet in Berwick last year as she’s only been there a couple of times years ago and I wasn’t there then. At least this time I’m prepared as last year I was shocked by the change.
