A day in Stockholm

We had a change of scene today with a visit to Stockholm. We caught a clean and quiet express train from Gnesta which had us in the city centre in just over half an hour. As we arrived, so did the rain as well as a chilly wind.

We particularly wanted to visit the Vasa Museum. The museum contains the wooden sailing ship the Vasa which sank in 1628 but was preserved in the silty mud of the Baltic Sea before being raised in 1961. The ship is impressive and the science which is being used to preserve it and better understand its story was conveyed so well.

Afterwards we walked around the city and particularly Gamla Stan (the old town) where we came across the Nobel Prize Museum but unfortunately didn’t have time to visit it nor any of the city’s extensive parks.

Back at our holiday home we had to rescue Polly the robot lawn mower who had become entangled with a washing line post on the boundary of her permitted range. She’s now safely back in her robot garage for a good nights sleep.

Many thanks for all your interest in and kind comments on my blips from Sweden, they are greatly appreciated.
