Grumpy Old Man

Geography lesson

Maybe the last sunny day - forecasts disagree on whether rain will come to Oban tomorrow or Saturday. Nobody’s saying when it will stop!

Thought I’d better get on with the garden just in case - did some hoeing out on the drive bed and more pot weeding.  After lunch I drove down to the Corran Halls where Keep Oban Beautiful, aka me, planted up a small bed last autumn. Did some weeding and watering - maybe need to put a few more bedding plants in.

Another cruise ship was anchored across the bay today - she’s the Le Bellot, operated by Ponant, a French company. She’s registered in Mata Utu, which I’d never heard of, so I looked it up -

“Mata Utu is the capital city of Wallis and Futuna, an overseas collectivity of France. It is located on the island of Uvéa, in the district of Hahake, of which it is also the capital. It is one of two ports in Wallis and Futuna, the other being at Leava on Futuna. Hihifo Airport, the main airport serving the island and city, is 5.6 kilometres to the northwest. Its population was 1,029 in 2018, up from 815 in 1998. The most prominent landmarks in the town are the Mata Utu Cathedral, the palace next to it and backdrop of the Mt. Lulu Fakahega where there is an old chapel. “

I obviously didn’t pay attention in my school geography lessons!

After some shopping I came home and planted up my 8th and absolutely final pot of runner beans on the deck.  By summer I’ll be holding runner bean parties I should think! I just hope I don’t go off them!
