Labour of love

Today has been spent making sympathy cards. The first one I made was for a friend of mine, whose brother died suddenly while we were away on holiday, which I only heard about yesterday. I dropped it round to her this morning and we had a hug. Then I made lots more sympathy cards because a regular customer of mine had sent me a text ordering five, so I made several different designs for her to choose from, and the rest will go up to the Atrium stand.

Now that I’ve made all those cards I need to start on an order from an elderly lady who used to belong to our church but has moved away. She emailed recently, asking me to make her about 50 birthday and ‘hug in an envelope’ cards of differing designs. That should keep her going for a bit!

Today’s blip, though, has to be this slice of banana cake which was presented to me this afternoon, accompanied by a cup of tea, by the inestimable Smithers. It was particularly good of him to make it because he’s been in considerable pain today.

He had an appointment on Tuesday with his osteopath, who did some more deep massage on his shoulders and neck to try and soften up the exceptionally tight muscles. I’m wondering if this is why Smithers is so tired and in such pain, and I’m hoping his neck will improve with each subsequent session. In the meantime, I’m giving him a neck massage myself for a short time every day, attempting to follow the osteopath’s instructions.
