Royal Papworth Charity Bear
After a successful day yesterday, disaster struck during the night. My husband had a major reaction to the antibiotic.
Instead of giving him his first dose of the day at 6am I rang the overnight number and the doctor agreed that he should not be given any more of that medication; another allergy to add to the list. They said they would pass the information on to the Lung Defence Clinic who would be dealing with the issue.
I did not hear anything and at 10am I rang the Lung Defence Clinic. The message had not been passed on! I spoke with the Lead Consultant of that clinic who wanted me to call an ambulance. I said I would drive him to Royal Papworth although they said their recommendation was for an ambulance. I have waited from between one and a half hours and nine hours for an ambulance; I could drive there quicker and so I did.
To cut a very long story short, once we arrived the doctor gave him a very thorough checking over and then it was discovered that as well as all the other reactions he was covered in a bright red rash, which was just starting to itch. He was given two bags of fluid as he was very dehydrated; they also gave him anti-sickness medication. He has been admitted to Royal Papworth and will stay there for a minimum of two weeks, while they give him a different intravenous antibiotic.
Today’s picture is of The Royal Papworth Charity bear that I purchased today; I also gave one to my husband before I left the hospital!
Temperature today – seventeen degrees Celsius. The early morning temperature was just four degrees in my garden so it was a fortuitous that I have not put our my bedding plants.
