My topsy-turvy life

Barry Can't Swim

Big Weekend
Sefton Park, Liverpool

Yes, it's a blow up doll.
Yes, it's wearing arm bands.
Barry may not be able to swim but he is at least trying.

We were at Radio 1's Big Weekend in Liverpool today* for a great day in the sun, watching live music. Barry Can't Swim was one of the acts we wanted to go and see so, after The Wombats on the Main Stage, we headed over to the New Music Stage and saw the end of D.O.D before a guy in a retro 1991 Everton shirt took the decks with no introducuction. 20 minutes later he finally played something we recognised as Barry Can't Swim when we'd thought he was just filling time. Later on, we were eating in the vicinity of James Hype when Barry came past on somebody's shoulders, obviously still unable to swim, not looking quite the same as he had done earlier.

We had a great day seeing lots of people we wouldn't necessarily have seen normally and I got to see a flashback of my own life as a guy at the Wombats was trying to keep an eye on his obviously drunk mate...I used to be the sensible one.
