The Girl with the Crocheted Blanket

My Glasgow daughter and granddaughter escaped rainy Glasgow for dry bright Edinburgh this morning and we had brunch together in Söderberg. We won’t see each other again until August because of our holiday arrangements. Nina has just one more higher exam to sit on Tuesday and so I appreciated her taking a day off revision to visit me. I handed over the crocheted blanket to her and she made all the right noises about it and so all is good.

Just as we were waiting for our food to be served, I was aware that there were people looking at us through the window. I looked up and saw an Orkney Selkie and her husband on the other side of the glass. What a shock! Davie is running the Half Marathon tomorrow and I had been planning to try and yell encouragement to him at the start but I had no idea I would see him in Soderberg the day before. I never fail to be impressed by fate and/or coincidence. What were the chances of my being in Soderberg at the same time that Heather and Davie passed? I am rarely there on a Saturday and certainly not at that time or at that particular table. I hope I recognise him tomorrow if it’s wet and he’s wearing a black bin bag!

Lucy and  Nina have left for home and the house is quiet again. They were such good company.
