Another one?
I went along to Rosebank cemetery to attend the commemoration of the horrible train wreck at Quintinshill near Gretna, 110 years ago. A pipe band processed and played and were followed by quite a crowd - veterans, dignitaries, sea cadets and lots of local civilians. There was a brief ceremony in front of the memorial, then a lone piper walked away amongst the tombstones playing the Flooers o' the Forest (extra). I realised that I was standing right beside this gravestone - a Royal Scot who died in hospital in 1916. No indication that he was involved in the train wreck, but his grave is very close to the mass grave memorial. Oh, and poor wee Angus. So much sadness. We will remember them.
In happier news, I saw the cygnet flotilla earlier in the morning - still nine! (2nd extra).
