Why Does It Always Rain On Me

Five years ago, having started running during lockdown, I was attempting to run a 10K distance before I turned 60. Spoiler alert - I managed it, but three years later I was hardly running at all because I’d done something to my right knee and running anything over a couple of kilometres was extremely painful and would need a few months of recovery before I could try again. My last attempt at any sort of distance was six months ago. I managed only about 4K before the pain became too bad and I limped back to the start. Since then, I have not tried running and have concentrated on building up the muscles around my knees.
It’s now a week before my 65th birthday and I am determined to run a pain free 5K before then. So I’m taking it easy. No gym this week, instead I’m going to try some short runs and see how my knee copes. I worked out a flat route, that was about a mile in length, and set off this morning to see what happened. I’d only gone a few hundred yards before the heavens opened and I had to shelter under a tree for several minutes. Which is where I took the picture.
After the rain passed, I completed the route, only to find it hadn’t recorded on Strava for some reason. However, my knee felt pretty good so I decided to do another lap, making sure it recorded this time, and then I could just double whatever it said to get a true figure for how far I’d run today.
Which turned out to be roughly 3K (2 miles) and I’m pretty pleased with that. I did put a support on my knee and it obviously did some good as I don’t really have any aches. A day off tomorrow and then I’ll go again on Wednesday, trying for a similar - or slightly longer - distance. If that goes to plan, and I remain ache free, then I can try for 5K at the end of the week.
Rain permitting of course…
