Lost in Thought

Barrington Court Plate Camera (MM592)

We were at Barrington Court today, a house which had fallen into disrepair and was saved by Colonel Lyle (as in the sugar/golden syrup) leased from the National Trust when he returned injured from WW1.  He restored and redeveloped the house between 1917 and 1921, with the aid of an architect friend and one of his Captains from the army who acted as his agent and did much of the basic organisation.
Aside from the Boer War - Colonel Lyle seems to have been a pretty reasonable and all-round good bloke :-) He had the local children invited to the house so they could listen to nature programmes on his 'wireless' and learned carpentry so he could help with the paneling in some of the rooms.

There are several of these replica plate cameras about the site, the 'focus screen'  showing a view from where they are set up taken at the time of the restoration work.

Thanks to our host for Mono Monday.

In the extra - Ariadne used my camera to photograph some of the garden  foxgloves.
