Whit Monday
Whit Monday gets its English name from Whit Sunday, or Whitsunday, which referred to the white garments worn on Pentecost by the newly baptized. The symbols of Pentecost are those of the Holy Spirit and include flames, wind, the breath of God and a dove.
Wind and rain today was preceded by a beautiful morning here, high tide meant that our early morning exercise was mainly inland.
Nature’s abundance of new creation was extremely evident, in particular the heady aroma of honeysuckle and wild roses as we walked along the narrow lanes. Yellowhammers, skylarks, buzzards and red kites were busy and vocal.
As I peered over a small bridge I was fortunate to observe a dipper foraging at the water’s edge oblivious to our presence. Several minutes of close range viewing was gratefully received.
The afternoon saw heavy rain and gusty winds which kept us mainly confined to the interior of Amadeus.
We did however make a spontaneous visit to a nearby garden which is part of the National Garden scheme.
The rain kept coming but hedgerows and trees helped shelter the majority of the “ Weather” from battering us.
