The Wash Monster
I walked into town and back this morning (about 4 miles altogether) while the others went swimming. Fortunately my back pain has eased a bit and I managed a reasonable pace..still taking plenty of painkillers though.
Walking down to the promenade I passed the base for the ‘Wash Monster’ and the gate was open ready for it to set off for the day.
It is a large amphibious vehicle that does tours…setting off from the beach, entering the water for a ‘cruise’ and then returning to the beach. I have added an extra showing it trundling along the shore in shallow water..between its home base and the tour departure point.
Known as a LARC (Lighter Amphibious Resupply Cargo) vessel it was originally designed for use by American Marines in Vietnam as a landing craft. The whole bow section drops down and a ramp folds out for access to the cargo space.
