Home & hospital

Pottered about at home doing bits of jobs this morning. Couldn't do anything much in the garden as it rained almost non-stop. Heavy. It had clearly chucked down in the night and Terry said he heard it but I slept through it.
When I went to see Terry he was having a cannula sited in order to start some intravenous antibiotics (again) and he told me he had not seen a doctor yet today. At least one must have been reviewing his case though re the antibiotics. He was given IV tazocin and while I was still there one of the doctors looking after Terry came to explain about the IV antibiotics. He said Terry's inflammatory markers have risen from 189 to 200 so this is why he has been prescribed them. He explained everything that is happening or not happening and said that Terry must report if his pain is worsening.
One of the frail patients sitting out was trying to stand on his own and was obviously unsafe so I went to him to see what he wanted while Terry asked him and he said he needed the toilet. I went to the nurse station and told the student and when she came in he said he wanted his watch! Nothing about the toilet!
Terry was not feeling any better - still getting the severe pain in his back when he takes all but shallow breaths or coughs and was still breathless and coughing. He said the pains in his abdomen have gone and it's just the back pain now. The pain relief is helping but walking to the toilet is a struggle as he feels wobbly or like he might pass out. He has reported this.
After I went home the consultant came round, stopped the IV antibiotics and said no more till we do blood cultures as he does not want Terry to become immune to any and wants to be sure to give the right type.
The consultant was not sure what was causing the back pain. It may be the blood clot or the infection or the effusion.
There does not seem to be much continuity of care. It all seems hit and miss and chop-change. Hope we can get some progress after he has blood cultures done.
Absolutely fed up for Terry and he is low I can tell. He was talking of the possibility that he will not get better.
The only photos I took were of our front garden in the rain - no problems re buses today thankfully - only a minute or two late.
