Shopping, hospital and home
Went out this morning to get Terry a spare dressing gown and slippers but couldn't get either despite driving to a few places. It must be the wrong time of year for buying dressing gowns and although I found the slippers he likes (moccasins from Wynsors) they had every size but his! I ordered some but they won't come till next Wednesday. I ordered a dressing gown for him from George (Asda) on click and collect and that's coming Friday. Hope it's the right size.
Set off to catch the bus to the hospital which was due at 13:12 and half way there I realised I'd left the bag with his spare undies and tee-shirt in so had to dash back home and then dash to the bus stop only to find the bus was running late by 2 minutes. 5 minutes to go so trotted to next stop only to check the app and find it was going to e even later!
Arrived on the ward at 13:35 nevertheless.
Terry seemed a bit better - his abdomen was not as distended and in fact had gone down quite a bit. His breathing was better and so was the pain. He said he had found by adjusting the bed to a lower position for his head that it was more comfortable and lessened the pain considerably so he slept quite well in the night, apart from the new deafening buzzers going off and the obs machine making irritating repetetive noises.
He had been seen by "the main man" as he calls him who seems to be someone higher than the consultant and he had said not to do blood cultures. Like I say, the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing. If his inflammatory markers have risen to 200 then this is not stability or improvement but a worsening. Is it a case of they are hoping not to find more things to treat as they are hoping to discharge him soon? I hope they don't discharge him before he is stable as I fear a relapse and another spell in A&E. He was sent for a chest xray in the morning (only because he said to the doctor that when he goes to the toilet he feels he is going to pass out as he can't get his breath). They told him he will get a CT scan soon but did not specify when. They also said that he may be admitted to the Royal Liverpool unless they want to teat him as an outpatient. This sounds remarkably like they want to pass the buck and discharge him before he is fully recovered. Nobody seems to be bothered about the pleural effusion and the blood clot they seem to dismiss since he is on clexane injections.
Today he had weetabix for breakfast but only apple crumble at lunchtime as he had no appetite for more. I got him a small latte from Costa Coffee and he enjoyed most of that at visiting time. His sister visited him the night before and took him a flask of tea in! He doesn't usually like tea from a flask but it tastes a lot better than the hospital brew.
He messaged me around teatime to say his oxygen sats were 98% so he must be improving. We've been here before though then back to unwell again so I am keeping the fingers crossed!
He did look somewhat better in himself and I just hope he maintains the improvement.
When I got home from visiting, I updated his 2 sisters and son on how he is, popped the washer on for a few quick wash items (and pegged them out), fed and watered the hedgehog(s) (one had left a present for me in front of the shed which I had to shift), put a few mealworms out for the blackbirds, checked the bird feeders did not need replenishing, mowed both lawns and then decided I wasn't doing much else.
Photo is of the little park across from the hospital which I sometimes have a stroll in if I have time to fill till the bus is due.
