Involuntary Dereliction

I am helping my wife with the clearance of her father's house. He is now safely in a home.

This is the room he used to sleep in.

And he did not know it was unfit for habitation.

Mental health is always inextricably linked to physical health.

I believe he will now be in much better health mentally and physically, now he gets the care he needs and deserves

I feel soiled just being there, touching things makes my skin crawl. The smell is inhuman..

And he and his wife lived there, completely oblivious to their surroundings. The mould on the kitchen ceiling is something I cannot erase from my memory.

I will be so glad when this is over, it has been an extremely unpleasant few years.

But at least he is now safe, clean, healthy and happy.

And we can move on with our own lives.

My mum's advice rings loud and clear..

"Whatever you do, don't grow old"
