Memories
I spotted this box of letters when I had to go to a cupboard yesterday, and couldn’t resist a look. What I thought would take a few minutes has proved to be an enormous time waster! I just can’t put them down! I keep saying “just one more letter!” And so it goes on.
We wrote the letters home to Norman’s parents when we were living in a refinery town in Venezuela in 1965/66. They are a week by week description of our life and included details of the progress of our baby Anna who was just a few months old when we first sailed out there. Life was so very different in many ways. It was very hot and dry. We had a lovely maid called Antonia. We took a trip by car up into The Andes. Norman was introduced to golf and sailing and the Dutch wives started me on my lifelong interest in cross stitch. All this is described in detail in the letters to share with Norman’s parents back home.
I am just over half way through reading the letters and I find it hard to stop. They are fascinating.
