Hilltop roses
Late in a busy day, I walked as briskly as I could manage along to the village, up onto the hilltop, then across the hilltop meadows and back down the lane I walk most days. I paused for photos, of course, but tried to fit more than the usual paltry number of steps into limited time, with some success - but it won't happen every day. The light was lovely, and some of the hilltop meadows, which have not been grazed for several years now, are slowly rewilding, with grass and wild flowers gradually being colonised by wild roses, brambles and tiny self seeded trees. As I approached the lane, low sun was illuminating the gnarled trunks of some of the oldest trees on the upper edge of the bluebell wood where it meets the sheep meadow. I only had my phone, but in summer the trunks are only sunlit at the very end of the day so I tried a few photos and have played with a bit of black and white editing. Next time I can get up there on a sunny evening, I hope I'll remember to take the camera.
