Single-Seater Experience

M’s long-awaited 70th birthday treat was today. He was joined by 4 other invited drivers to take part in the Single-Seater Experience at Silverstone Race Circuit.

The drivers are given a safety briefing before getting into the cars (which can reach speeds to well over 100 miles an hour). They complete a few laps behind a safety car to get used to the controls. Then they can race each other. The rules are strict but even so one driver managed to spin off onto the grass but recovered and carried on (not someone from our group). After the race they are given their timing statistics and a QR code which enables them to purchase the video of their drive taken by the camera that was attached to their car. Also see extra. The instructors are so friendly, helpful and cheerful and the whole experience was great.

Afterwards the drivers, plus our dear friends and family who came along to watch the event retired to the pub in Silverstone village for drinks and dinner.

Such a happy day, and one to look back on with a smile. This is our last night in the super modern apartment on the circuit. Back home tomorrow.
