Del Mar beach

Our last morning in San Diego - we packed up and then met Adam for breakfast at the lodge. He enjoyed some delicious looking French toast, maple syrup and berries which I wish I could have tried but they were not gluten free. I then finished my packing and we checked out.

Today was warm but hazy with cloudy skies. We drove to Del Mar as Adam has not yet been to the village. There were many people surfing, playing volleyball on the beach and generally having a fun Sunday. I took this photo of the life guard observing someone out in the sea. I do like these iconic Californian life guard towers they use on the beaches here.

We had our last cappuccino from Bird rock Coffee Roasters at Del Mar before dropping Adam off at home and saying our goodbyes. At least we will see him again at the end of the month when he comes to the UK for the prize ceremony at Cambridge. He also has three of his best friends from university visiting him next week, they have been doing a trip around some of the national parks in the USA, so he has that to look forward to.

We are now sitting in the lounge at the airport waiting for our flight home. It has been a wonderful trip to San Diego, we are so very pleased that Gavin was well enough to come on this trip. San Diego is a beautiful city, so clean and tidy with lovely gardens everywhere, it has been good to visit here. A long flight now lies ahead of us, and the jet lag will be awful, it's always worse going west to east. Home to Xena!
