Standing Tall

The bank at the back of the house has dozens of foxgloves just coming in to flower. They are peopling the spaces left by the spruce trees we took out a couple of years ago - revelling in the light and air that now reach the soil. 

It's exciting to watch just what is happening there, as we leave nature to do the work. Lots of vetch, some thistles, clover and red campion, and an absolute thatch of the weed that some call cleavers, but I know by its Scottish name, sticky willie.  Earlier, there were some bluebells. 

It's easier to see the birds on the feeders now - the woodpeckers are back. And I saw a tree-creeper a few weeks ago. Only the second one I've ever seen here.
