Heading north

Before leaving Kutaisi this morning we visit Bagrati Cathedral aka St. Mary's. We leave Kutaisi and head for the Upper Svaneti region stopping at Enguri Dam to admire the views of the Greater Caucasus.

Our journey to Mestia takes us through some fabulous scenery this afternoon which distracts us from the very dubious road conditions. There were areas that we would never have been allowed to drive on back home. Driving within a couple of feet of the collapsed road at the edge of a deep gorge. Not for the faint hearted. And we have to do it again on the way back.
