Native Bird Recovery Richmond

At camera club on Monday night a local photographer (and member of the club) gave a talk on how he and some friends had spent 5 years working on capturing images of one of our most beautiful native birds, the tui. From their 5 years of work they, along with others, have helped to create a small hide complete with seating and 3 lens-sized viewing slots. They have also published a book of the images as a fund-raiser to support the project.

Today I went out and bought the book (which is grossly under-priced considering the amazing images it contains) then went on a short reccy trip to find the hide.

It's just a 3 minute walk along a well-developed track and whilst I didn't see any birds from it today I have made a mental note to re-visit it and also to take a walk further along the track which is like an oasis of native bush in an urban setting.
