Gently down the stream

Small birds

Today at the coast it was all small birds as far as my blipping went.  This reed warbler gave me a shot I could have got on the reserve, but was still my favourite shot of the day.  And in extras is a young pied wagtail that rather stole my heart.  Rubbish background I know, but you can see how young it is by looking at the corner of its beak and the pattern of its feathers still not quite what an adult's would be.  I also had a long chat with a volunteer who keeps an eye on the birds young and old.  We talked about the wire fence (which makes photography so difficult but is essential for keeping foxes and dogs off the reserve) and he told me that the main problem they have now is crows, to whom they've lost 80 avocet chicks this year!

Not a lot else, so I'll sign off now.  Hope your day's been a good one  xx
