Look Out!
This is a cold war 'Orlit B' aircraft lookout post used by the Royal Observer Corps. I've blipped it several time before but the Wide on Wednesday theme has been set by steveng, who's hosting this week and next while Bob's away.
The theme is man-made brutalist architecture and to be honest, there's not a lot of brutalist architecture in the village. I'm not even sure this is even architecture as such but somebody at Messrs Orlit Ltd must have drawn up a plan for the precast sections before they were put together in the 1950s. That puts it firmly in the right period and brutalism is thought to come from the French term 'béton brut', which means raw concrete.
This stands on the golf course, near the road so I nipped up there this evening and sneaked through the hedge for my photo. At this time of year the hedge is more intrusive but it still stands out quite well.
