Ushguli

This morning we drove to Ushguli in a 4x4 vehicle due to the rugged terrain. We visited the Svaneti Museum of History and Ethnography, a home which has been owned by the family for generations and lived in until the late 50s. A great insight into the village way of life.

The most recognised landmark in this region is the koshki, or stone tower. Although land was not in short supply, it was difficult to defend so these tower homes were built to protect families against invaders.

We get back to the hotel mid afternoon so there's some free time for a walk around town before dinner.
