Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

2025 Sunday — A Good Day

The UkeLadies were going to sing and play at the senior citizen home today, so we went to cheer them on. Pastor Luke did the devotion and he led a communion service.

Fifty years ago today, June 1st was a Sunday. That day in 1975 I became a Christian. It was exactly two weeks after Mr. Fun had become a Christian on May 18th.

I’m thankful for Tim Coop, who was the pastor that explained simply what it meant to be a Christian. I had always thought that I had “to be good enough.” Tim explained that Jesus had paid my debt.

I’m thankful for Lloyd Dunn who suggested that we attend an adult Sunday school class when our daughter did not want to leave Lloyd’s kindergarten class because he was making pancakes for the kids.

I’m thankful for dozens of people who encouraged and befriended us those first few weeks, months, and years. Just in the first six months or year, some of those people were Keith & Louise, Rick & LaJune, John & Carla, Al & Lynn , Glenn & Til, Chuck & Jeanne, Al & Charlotte,, Joe & Paula, Howard & Reenie,, Mike & LeAnn, Dave & Laura, and Bob & Loretta who invited us to the “new member” group.

Don Olsby invited us to roll-up our sleeves to serve in “Kids Kamp,” that invitation opened a door that enhanced our involvement in God’s Kingdom. Before long we were serving in the high school ministry and then the junior high ministry. We served along side of Carrie, Rick, Jim, Chuck & Pam Danny & Mamie, Jim & Elaine, and the list is endless.

As time moved forward, we became friends with so many people who were like us, fairly new Christians. All so excited about Christ and the new life He gives. In less than two years, Tom was a fulltime student at Bible College. As he graduated, he was offered an associate pastor position. Fifty years ago I would have never believed what was coming in the future. All I wanted that day was to publicly proclaim that I believed that Christ had died for my sin. Tim asked me to say that before he baptized me that day, and I did.

Only once in fifty years have I wanted to renege on my decision. Mostly I thought I didn’t have the equipment to be a pastor’s wife. So I wanted out. At that moment God graciously wrapped Himself around me and whispered clearly into my life these words, “You can run away from Tom, but you’ll never out run my voice. I love you.” God’s grace and love that day (and everyday) was and is overwhelming. I stayed. I am so glad I did.

I can’t imagine living my life without Christ as my Lord (or without Mr. Fun as my husband). I am thankful for God, for the Bible, and for His huge family of wonderful people that He added us to.

Rosie (& Mr. Fun), aka Carol
and Chloe & Mitzi too!
