Best friends

We’ve had a lovely day. My oldest schoolfriend and her husband arrived about 11.00 am and, from the minute they got out of the car, we were hugging and chatting nineteen to the dozen.

Smithers did sterling service providing cups of coffee and serving lunch, which we had prepared before they came. Sadly it was a rainy day, as can be seen from the garden tub in my photo, so we weren’t able to eat al fresco as planned.

Smithers chatted to my friend’s husband while my friend and I discussed what we are each reading, exchanged other book and television programme recommendations, compared notes on how we are getting on with the SimplyPiano app, discussed religion and politics … and, amazingly, considering all that, we were all still best of friends by the time they left to go home!

Old friends are the best friends, without a doubt.
