Black Stacks from Lotra Minn
We were on the west coast of Shetland’s Central Mainland today.
We began in Scalloway this morning in driving rain and yet more gusty winds and ended the day at the spectacular Minn Beach (another tombolo, see extra) at the south of West Burra in sunshine and gentler breezes. Plenty of seabirds on the turf uplands on the way to Kettla Ness and little chicks scampering around.
Scalloway was once the ancient capital of Shetlands before Lerwick. The village was also the third and final location of the Shetland Bus which we read about on several information boards as well as seeing Norway House which was commandeered for the operations.
In between times we walked the Hamnavoe Circular ending up at an other amazing beach at Meal. We didn’t get a fix of coffee as the Cornerstone cafe in Scalloway was full of lunch time diners!
