Black Comedy

Out tonight to see Rhod Gilbert on his stand up tour. Like other comedians we’ve seen in Kendal, he was slightly scathing about performing in the Leisure Centre, though it should be noted that he had sold it out.
The topic of the show was his experience of cancer. From diagnosis, through treatment to eventually getting the all clear, albeit with some residual issues.
Not an obvious subject for two hours of comedy, and he pulled no punches in describing what he went through. Yet the way he told it, the audience was crying with laughter most of the time. A very personal story but told with a great deal of (dark) humour.
It was great to see him looking so well - especially considering the Kendal date is towards the end of the tour - and long may it continue.
