The First Snowberries

Last week I captured a wasp on the snowberry flowers. Today at midday the rain had just let up when I spotted a similar scenario despite the drenched conditions. Also, the first berries had appeared. This 2-picture blip shows today's wasp head-on, looking fairly vicious.

Below are the snowberries at various stages of development. They'll remain all winter, long after the wasps and the leaves have disappeared. When the berries are broken open, the fruit inside looks like fine, sparkling granular snow.They are considered poisonous to humans, causing mild symptoms of vomiting, dizziness and mild skin irritation, if handled.
