While on my runs

Allowed me to be close

Today was sunny, and the temperature was chilly for we who are used to the temperate climate. after lunch I spent a couple of hours doing some gardening. There is only a very small layer of earth above the clay exposed by builders, initially in the 1970s, and more recently with what we have had done. S asked me to make some drainage holes in an area near the rear of the house where a kitchen garden is planned. Will need a lot of soil; garden mix should add to it.

She also asked me to plant the banana palm. It was a little rootbound in the pot it came in. I've freed up the roots and planted it with much goodness surrounding the root ball. I also broke into one of the bags of mulch I've created to protect and feed the banana. My photo of it is an extra.

When I'd done that planting, I went for a jog. Along the lower pipeline. Saw little to catch my interest until I was close to finishing, and a Kereru crashed into a shrubby tree beside the road. Iseemed relaxed about my presence, as it used one wing to hook over twigs and bring them closer to its beak.

After I had moved on a little another kereru flew at speed low over the road, between the trees and towards where the first was seen.
