The accidental finding

The meercat in the cupboard

I did some more tidying of my study. Indie the cat is a bit cheesed off about the removal of some clothes from the top shelf of one of the cupboards. She decided to climb into the ‘glory hole’ that is the craft cupboard, and sit among some bottles of paint. Coincidentally my friend K had asked me to send photos of Indie, so I sent this one and then asked her if she knew anyone who wanted some craft materials. She put me in touch with someone, but I frightened that person off by asking her if she could come over one evening! Doesn’t take much … I just happen to work four days a week! Anyway the upshot is that friend and her daughter are coming round instead on Thurs at 4 to have a look. I hope they will take some stuff. The cupboard is floor-to-ceiling , with shelves two feet deep! I want to keep some things, but not everything. I got a book about collage today, it arrived this afternoon, so this clearing-out will help me evaluate what is needed (I hope).

Next, Steve and I set about clearing the back step of plants. We want to have some jolly planters and tubs. This was actually a massive operation and I gave some bushes, on the level below, a radical haircut. Fortunately after about two hours, I had to go and get changed, to go for a walk with GG.

We went to Uley, a Cotswold village I’ve visited a couple of times lately, and walked across the Millennium Green. Found a walled garden that belonged to an old Mill conversion, and a large castellated house called Stouts Hill, that I recognised as Stephen Fry’s former boarding school. It’s a private residence now. Back in the village, GG decided we needed to take an eccentric route back home, and drove into a National Trust driveway. We got told off for driving down a pathway(!) and then GG decided we couldn’t queue for the restaurant. I told her she was cruel to taunt me with vanishing images of cake, so she decided to stop after all. We had drinks and I had orange and lemon polenta cake, while GG had a coronation cheese scone (curried, with raisins and cheese)! Then we left NT Tinkley Gate, which used to be Thistledown camp site, and drove back to Stroud.

I’ve managed to convert my desk (which is now clear) into a standing desk by putting the bed-table on it for my laptop. That seems to work well. I have too many office-type chairs now, thanks to a day in January when I acquired two in one day, but I really want an easy chair/rocking chair (saw one in a charity shop today) for the corner. It’ll have to be dolls house size, though!
