Mount Shasta

Redwood City - Ashland (California - Oregon)

First leg of the drive.  Not one I've done in a good long while (I think 2007, maybe 2008).  It's a beautiful drive with scenery that makes me quite emotional, I have to admit.

Tedious getting out of SF, 19th Ave is the pits, but was saved by smiling boy from a window above a convenience store.  Once out of the fog bank covering SF we were back into warmth, oleander blooming everywhere along the highway, apricot orchards, olives...  hot Sacramento Valley.  Quick break in Willows, bathroom, stretch.  96ºF.  Skipped Redding, always a furnace, 107ºF, glad we'd stopped earlier. Then into the mountains and Mount Shasta.

Arrived in Ashland early evening, checked into our lodgings then went for dinner and stroll and a browse of the nice bookstore.  92ºF.  



We'd made fairly good time, about 6 1/2 hrs.  But yeesh my body was feeling it, achy creaky.  Early bed.
