Ickworth House

Backblip for the 7th June. We had a lovely visit to this National Trust property and managed to dodge the worst of the showers. The neo classical building was built in the 18th and 19th Centuries. In extras you can see the Stumpery, Rob with our friends and a beautiful chandelier made from Murano glass. The sheep is for Kd.

It was one of those weekends with coincidences. Rob and I were discussing what to do with part of the garden where not much grows. We ruled out a rockery as we don't want to carry big stones and I googled to see what might an alternative and came up with a Stumpery, using stumps or logs as features. A new word for me. The next day our friend suggested visiting Ickworth House to see the Stumpery. Cannot believe a new word came up in general conversation the next day.
In the house was a beautiful chandelier made from Murano glass. I have just finished a book by Tracy Chevalier called "The Glassmaker" about the history of glass making on Murano, which talked specifically about making a chandelier for a grand house, so this was the second coincidence. I am reading another novel where the hero collects orchids and he mentioned the detective Nero Wolfe collected orchids so I decided to buy the first book in that series, having never heard of it.  Then watching Department Q on the telly last night someone mentioned a quote by Nero Wolfe.
