A very different day

I was busy at work when I got a call from our crazy friend Tammy.

She has had Patrick from Malawi working with her and her family for years, and yesterday he was heading back to Malawi to see his family.

The only problem was that unbeknown to Tam, he had bought his visa so as soon as he tried to go through immigration he was detained as being illegally in the country.

Given that his luggage was now in limbo, I went to collect it. For those of you who know OR Tambo, it is a lengthy drive at the best of times, but today it took me only 20 minutes from Westcliff.  I parked in an area I hadn’t used before to find the place I had to go to was five minutes walk away.

Paperwork handed over and luggage provided in less than five minutes, I was back on the road and was back at my desk well within an hour.

Patrick is now locked up until the 3rd of July when he will go back to court.

I wonder how much he regrets not following the legal route to being here.
