An Orkney Summer

Yes it’s ice cream and T- shirt weather again today. It was almost too hot sitting in the garden sunshine but I stuck it out like the trooper I am.
There is just a whisper of wind today which made for a calm and longer dip in the sea this morning. Unfortunately we noticed two moon jellyfish near the slip. I’m not sure if they sting badly or at all but we have to watch out for the ‘lion’s mane’ jelly which gives a nasty sting.

One of the Selkies came for coffee and we made vague plans to venture further afield in the next week or so. By lunch time cabin fever had got hold of me and I limped with my staved toe ( wearing the wrong shoes didn’t help) to the library to collect a book I had ordered and order the one we are reading at our next book group when I am back home. It’s ’Guilty by Definition’ by Susie Dent and Kirkwall library have it , so I will take a trip through to the city to get it maybe tomorrow.

Stromness seemed bustling with holiday makers today, the kind of tourists of yore who are not off a cruise liner but are day trippers here to drink in the atmosphere of the place and not feel the need to be  ticking boxes. I felt emboldened to sit at the harbour licking my Orkney ice cream which in my opinion beats that of Luca’s in Musselburgh.

It’s been another perfect Orkney Day.
