Wettish Wednesday

It was a shock to the system to wake up to rain this morning. Since I’ve arrived, rain has discreetly happened during the night, finished and over before I opened my peepers. Not so this morning and I entertained the idea of having a long lie and missing the dip. It’s not the swimming in the rain that puts me off, it’s the wet walk to the slip and getting dressed in the rain that is unpleasant. Anyway, at the point of no return, the rain stopped long enough for me to get to the slip, swim  and get dressed in a dry interlude. There were 11 of us present this morning which was good going for mid week.

With the weather looking bleak I took the bus through to Kirkwall to pick up the book I ordered at the Stromness Library yesterday at the Kirkwall library only to discover it’s out on loan and I would have to wait. I then did a sweep of Shearer’s before splashing the cash for a coffee in Judith Glue’s. It has slightly more atmosphere than the café in the Town Hall next door, but that does come at a price.

The afternoon was brighter with a hint of  sunshine, enough for me to go for a walk  and visit one of the Selkies who had fallen ( note how I said ‘fallen’ and not ‘had a fall’) a few days ago and gashed her forehead. Fortunately she didn’t break any bones and is in good spirits.

With the disappearance of the rain came humidity and a higher temperature leaving me feeling much too overdressed as I walked home,  but far would it be for me to complain.
