To the tombolos - the long way

This morning we took the 'scenic' route along the coastline (rather than over the hills) to the tombolos. This meant that we enjoyed some marvellous views across the white sand beaches and beautiful turquoise sea to the islands of Mealista, Scarp, and Harris: that's Mealista in my blip. It was also quite a (scary) thrill whenever we peered down over the cliffs to look at the impressive sea stacks along the route. However, it took us over two hours to reach our destination due to the need to 'fractal' walk over rough terrain, especially when we hit the deep gorges that run into the sea.

We found a lovely picnic spot on tombolo 1 (extra) and sunbathed and read there until the tide sneaked around the corner. Then we moved to a big flat rock a bit further up the beach for the rest of the afternoon. It was very warm, and we almost considered a swim.

We returned to our car by the 'sensible' route. This was fifty minutes faster than the outward journey, and much less strenuous because we were above the line of the heather much of the way.

Back to base we rewarded our efforts with ice cream, then settled down for the evening's entertainment of Scrabble (another loss for me, but I had horrible letters) and the final episode of Department Q.

Tomorrow will be exciting because a blipfriend is joining us on the Isle of Lewis for a couple of days!

Exercise today: tombolo walking.
